I recently changed the tagline of this blog to “Modern Nomad” (you can see it up there, in the window title). I figured it deserves a bit of explanation. How am I a nomad? Why do I consider myself a modern one?

nomad; plural noun: nomads
- a member of a people having no permanent abode, and who travel from place to place to find fresh pasture for their livestock.
- a person who does not stay long in the same place; a wanderer.
No livestock or fresh pastures for me of course, at least not literally, but technology put to the service of mobility. I apply this to my life at different scales, from long distances and periods, to my daily wanderings.
I’ll find the time soon to tell the tale of how mobility, remote work, and the notion of distributed workplace progressively shaped my life and mind over the past 30 years. Today I just wanted to give you a glimpse of my daily life through this map of Vienna, the city where I have been living for the past 20 months, showing the locations of all the different bars, restaurants, gyms, coworking spaces, parks, terraces, that I have transformed into my office once, every now and then or on a regular basis.
This is the type of freedom that technology makes possible today, the ability to choose one’s working environment depending on the mood, the weather, the time of the day, the tasks at hand. I never want to go back!
