Your real priorities always win, even when it sucks

Estimated reading time: 2 minutes

“I can’t find time to do ___BLANK___.

“I’d like to ___BLANK___, but I don’t have time.”

How often have you said, or heard, those sentences or similar ones along the same lines?

I know I have used them for years, justified, since my mid-twenties, by a “busy life.”

We all have 24 hours each day.

Here’s the thing though, we are all together on this planet that spins around its axis in 24 hours.

Anyone who is lucky enough to be in good health, and has a comfortable way to satisfy their physiological and safety needs, needs to reconsider such statements, beginning with me.

I insist on these points because I believe that with such privilege comes responsibility. Billions of people on this planet still can’t dispose of their time as they’d wish, and by respect for them, those like me, who are lucky enough to have such agency, should never complain about lacking time.

It’s what you do, not what you say.

Someone said, “You don’t find the time. You make the time”.

couldn’t agree more. Defining one’s priorities and investing time is the same as budgeting and investing money. If you want to use your money well, you define a budget that guarantees it’ll go towards what is most important to you.

The same applies to time: budget it and invest in your priorities.

If you ever find that “you can’t find time” for important things, I encourage you to re-evaluate your priorities.

Are the things you can’t find time for really the most essential?

I can assure you that the most important things for you are the ones you do, not the ones you say you should do.

If they are not aligned, it is time to recognize it, accept it, or make radical changes.
