Yesterday was the last day of 🚢 Ship 30 for 30’s onboarding week and the first of 30 days where I and several other hundreds of writers committed to learning about digital writing and publishing every day.
Why am I doing this?
The short answer is that the possibility of creating online content and reaching readers anywhere in the world is the most profound change that computers and the internet have brought to humanity. Probably one of the deepest shifts in human history, with the potential to lead us forward for centuries to come.
I have used the tools for the entirety of my career, but I had never approached content creation systematically until last year. In the past, I considered writing as a communication tool that enables collaboration and, therefore, creating products with a team.
I had never approached writing as the product itself.
Why Ship 30 for 30?
I started along this journey last year and established a weekly writing habit.
In conversation with other students and mentors, I heard of this course and somehow found that ramping up to a daily habit was the right thing to do.
I had no idea why at the time, but the first live session of Ship 30 for 30 lit a proverbial bulb in my mind.
If writing is the product, iterate on it like a product.
Approach the problem with a product mindset:
- Experiment as much as you can.
- Collect feedback and gather data to analyze.
- Limit variable changes to know which ones are impacting results.
- Then, apply what works and keep iterating from there.
Of course, and this is very important, don’t hesitate to regularly put your conviction and prior learnings to the test by trying radical changes, so you don’t limit your progress to local maxima.
