Monochrome is not always black & white

I have been known for publishing B&W photos mostly. After all, my photo portfolio is at monochrome.blog. I also explained why.

Although, at times, I use cameras that can only shoot in B&W, most cameras nowadays have a color sensor, and so I often have to convert color files to gray scale.

I generally don’t think twice, and do it systematically before even looking at the photos. My camera viewfinder and rear screen are also set to show monochromatic previews, so I don’t get distracted by colors.

Once in a while, though, I look at the RGB versions of the files, typically when I shot images that were already quite monochromatic to begin with.

This happened a few weeks ago, on New Year’s Day, as I was walking through Schärding, a small Austrian town near the German border, by the river Inn.

So, here’s a view of Schloss Neuhaus am Inn, which sits on the German side of the river, seen from the new bridge on the Inn, coming from Austria.
